Mike Carragher Named EFCG 2021 CEO of the Year

Updated: Nov 16, 2021

During EFCG’s 32nd Annual CEO Conference on September 29th, EFCG named Mike Carragher, CEO and President of VHB, the 2021 CEO of the Year. Every year, this award recognizes an individual for their noteworthy contributions to their firm’s success, the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry’s advancement and, especially this year, their community.

Under the nearly six years of Carragher’s leadership, VHB has grown from $185 million of gross revenues to an estimated $309 million of revenues, producing growth in excess of 67%. The firm’s growth comes from both strong organic growth as well as eleven strategic acquisitions.

Carragher and VHB have dedicated strategies to focus on the trends most impacting the industry today, including technology, talent, DEI advancement, and sustainability, among other areas. Carragher’s focus on new technologies has enabled VHB to meet evolving client demands, improve the nation’s mobility, and shape communities in a sustainable and meaningful way.

Through his proactive commitment to DEI advancement, Carragher stands as a strong example of what this industry and our leaders can accomplish. Unsatisfied with leaning on the crutch of industry demographics to explain away the challenge of improving company and industry-wide diversity and inclusion standards, Carragher is leading the way to overcome these demographic and cultural headwinds. Through his leadership role with the ACEC Design Professionals Council, he has been a tireless and vocal advocate for advancing diversity in the workplace and creating more inclusive environments.

“Mike is a strong, thoughtful leader who makes sure that every voice is heard,” says VHB’s Chief People Officer, Keri Kocur. “He has a future mindset and is always focused on continuous improvement in all that we do, and to strengthening our foundation for sustainable growth and success. Mike is wholeheartedly dedicated to our people and to creating and providing the best experience for them. I’m honored to work alongside him and proud to celebrate him and his deserving recognition as CEO of the Year.”
